Flu Tips

 

Flu season is here, but that doesn't mean you have to sit and wait to get sick. Follow the proactive steps provided below to keep flu germs from trespassing in your home! Our simple flu prevention ensure a healthier flu season for you and your family!

Step 1: Wipe away all germs

Stopping germs from spreading is more effective when you use facial tissues, disinfectants, and disposable towels. Be sure these products, as well as their appropriate disposal receptacles, are always available.

Step 2: Dispense all germs

Washing your hands frequently with soap and water is an effective way to eliminate flu-causing germs. If you don't have access to soap and water, use alcohol-based (at least 60%) cleaners or wipes from dispensers.

Step 3: Safe guard against germs.

Ensuring alcohol-based hand sanitizers or wipes are readily available in lobbies, corridors, restrooms, and other high-traffic areas is another easy way to stop flu germs from spreading. These important flu-fighting tools help you, your residents, and your employees stay healthy.

TODAY WORK BEGAN TO FIND THE LEAK IN THE PARKING LOT NEAR BUILDING 20!

 

WATER WILL BE TURNED OFF PERIODICALLY BUT NO LONGER THAN NECESSARY.

 

 

Plumbers will be digging in the parking lot near buildings 20-23.

They are looking for the source of the water leak running down the hill.

We do not know if or when water may be shut off or for how long it will be off.

If the water needs to be turned off we do not know how many buildings will be affected.

Beech Lake Apartments Food Drive!

It’s that time of the year to say “Thanks”.

October 9^th,2013-November 18^th,2013

We here at Beech Lake believe in giving back. We feel that it is our duty to help the less fortunate, especially this time of year.  I know that together we can make a great impact in the community! So let’s take a moment and think about how many people can be fed if we collect 800 items. Please place whatever food or personal hygiene items in this bag and drop it off at the leasing office. Your contributions will be taken to the Durham Rescue Mission on November 18, 2013.

As an added incentive to give, you will receive one raffle ticket per item donated. At the end of the food drive one ticket will be chosen at random. The winning ticket is good for $100.00 off of December’s rent! The more you donate the better chance you have to win! We will announce the winner on our community blog on November 25th.

Items most needed: Canned meats, canned vegetables, pasta and pasta sauce, soup,

dried beans, canned fruit, rice, peanut butter and jelly, cereal, grits and oatmeal packets.

 

Personal Hygiene: Toothbrushes, toothpaste and floss, deodorant, razors and shaving cream, soap and shampoo, lotion, washcloths, feminine products, diapers, blankets, space heaters, box fans. All non-perishable items are appreciated.

 

*Please drop off all items in the leasing office by 6:00 pm on Monday, November 18^th.

**Please remember that donated items cannot be opened, expired or contain any alcohol at all.

Hello Beech Lake!

Do not be alarmed!

Duke Energy will be conducting an upgrade in our property in the next few weeks. This upgrade is going to be done on our electric meters. They are going to replace them with smart meters (digital!)You will see Duke Energy workers periodically onsite and working on your buildings. These workers will have picture I.D.'s on them so don't hesitate to ask. This installation process may cause a brief interruption in your service.

 Feel free to contact the leasing office with any questions you might have.

Fire Safety!

Fires can happen at any time to anyone.  Please remember to test your smoke detector monthly and replace the batteries as needed. 

If you have a fire call 911! Do not wait - call immediately. 

Grilling is prohibited on all balconies, porches or near buildings. The only place you are allowed to grill is at the pool. 

Do not throw cigarettes or cigars on the ground. 

Please check the location of the fire extinguisher on your floor. 

Make sure your renters insurance is up to date!

Every Wednesday we have fresh bagels from our local Bruggers Bagels located near Harris Teeter in University Commons.  As always our coffee bar is fully stocked with Tea, Coffee and bottled water.

water leak update.....

You may notice low water pressure or the water is off.  The plumbers are turning off the water to conduct a pressurized leak test.  When the test is done water will be turned back on.  We do not have any specific times for water to be back on.  We are at the mercy of City of Durham public works.

Repairs to the leak will be done later this week.  Water will need to be turned off for the repairs as well. 

We thank everyone for being so patient with the intermittent water this week. 

Water leak update.....

You may have noticed the water has not been shut off yet.  That is because the plumbers had to dig quite the large hole to find the leak.  Tomorrow will be the day water is shut off and the repairs will be made.  The good news is there is only one leak not two. If you have any questions give the office a call and we will try to help.

Water leak....

We have another reported main line water leak.  Possibly 3 in the same area.  We do not know when repairs will be done but everyone will be notified at least 48 hours beforehand.  Water will need to be turned off while repairs are made. 

We are also beginning to install valves around the property.  This will lessen the need to turn off water to 28 buildings to make one repair.  The valve instillation will occur when repairs are made.  It will take some time before enough are installed to prevent turning off the water to 28 buildings. 

My apologize for any inconveniences and disruptions in water service. 

We will try our best to keep you updated each step of the way.

Tropical Storm Andrea threatens FL, GA, SC, NC

Hurricane season just started on June 1 and we already have our first named storm. Tropical Storm Andrea formed in the Gulf last night and has already prompted tornado warnings and flooding concerns around Palm Beach County and across southern Florida. The threat is expected to spread through southeast Georgia, the eastern Carolinas, and southeast Virginia tonight through Friday.

Don’t get caught unprepared. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June to November each year. Residents of the U.S. east and gulf coasts typically see 10 named storms each season, with about 6 becoming hurricanes. Two to three of those become category 3 or greater, or major hurricanes. And we’ve all seen that hurricanes can travel well inland – even if you’re a few hours from the coast there’s no guarantee you won’t feel the effects of a hurricane.

With Superstorm Sandy (which started as a hurricane) fresh in our memories, we’ve got 5 tips to help make sure you’re prepared.



1.Establish a written emergency plan for your family and for your business

2.Review insurance coverage for your home. Don’t forget to look into flood insurance eligibility (homeowner/renters policies don’t typically cover flood damage)

3.If you’re in a hurricane evacuation zone, know the routes in case you’re advised to evacuate

4.Agree on a place where family members can meet if separated

5.Test all emergency equipment (generators, flashlights, etc.) in advance

Wednesday water update.....

The repair to the broken pipe is repaired. We need to wait at least 2 hours before water may be turned back on. If anything changes we will post an update. Thank you again for your patience.

Third time is a charm.......

We are extremely sorry to report that repairs to the broken water main will not be completed today. Water will be back on as soon as the city turns it on. Some buildings may continue to experience low pressure this evening. We made the decision to try again tomorrow in order to minimize the amount of time the water is turned off. We apologize for the continued disruption in water pressure and service. It is a unfortunate necessity to complete the repairs properly.

Water repairs update.......

The plumbers are on the property and waiting for the city to turn off the water. When the water is off repairs will continue this afternoon. As we are notified of new information we will update everyone. We appreciate everyone’s understanding and patience while repairs are completed.

March 18-20, 2013 your fireplace and dryer vent will be inspected and (if needed) cleaned by NeatNik Services, INC They will begin with building 1 and go in order to building 30.

You must move all items away from your fire place.

All items on and around your dryer must also be moved.

Please secure all pets. Your front door may need to be open while equipment is brought inside.
